What Is Speech Therapy?

Speech Therapy is a clinical discipline that helps individuals develop, restore, or strengthen their ability to communicate. For children, it focuses on addressing difficulties with spoken language, articulation, voice, fluency, and social communication β€” all essential for academic success, social development, and quality of life.

At Blissful Beginning CDC, our certified Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) use internationally validated, evidence-based techniques to assess each child's unique communication profile and design a targeted therapy programme. Sessions are delivered in a warm, engaging, child-friendly environment that makes learning feel like play.

🌟 Did You Know? Children who begin speech therapy before age 5 consistently show faster and more complete progress than those who begin later. Early identification and intervention is key.

Speech Therapy Conditions We Treat

Childhood Apraxia of Speech

A motor speech disorder where the brain struggles to coordinate movements needed for clear speech. Our therapists use specialised evidence-based techniques to achieve consistent, accurate speech.

Stuttering & Disfluency

We support children who experience repetitions, prolongations, or blocks in their speech β€” building fluency, reducing anxiety, and developing confidence.

Speech Sound Disorders

When children substitute, omit, or distort sounds not expected for their age, our therapists work systematically to target specific sounds and improve overall clarity.

Resonance & Voice Disorders

Conditions affecting vocal quality, pitch, loudness, or nasal resonance β€” assessed and treated to restore clear, comfortable voice production.

Selective Mutism

A complex anxiety-related condition where children don't speak in certain situations. We use gentle, graduated exposure techniques to build confidence and communication.

Autism & Social Communication

Our therapists address both verbal and non-verbal communication, pragmatic language, and social interaction skills for children on the autism spectrum.

Speech therapy can begin as early as 18 months if signs of delay are present. Generally, earlier is better β€” the developing brain responds to therapy most rapidly in the first 5 years of life. If you have any concerns, it's always worth getting an early assessment.
Duration depends on the nature and severity of the issue, your child's age, and how consistently sessions and home programmes are followed. Some children show significant progress in 3–6 months; others benefit from longer-term support. We'll give you a realistic timeline after our initial assessment.
Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes and are play-based and child-friendly. Your therapist will use games, activities, and structured exercises designed to work on your child's individual goals β€” rarely feeling like "therapy" to the child!
Yes β€” we actively encourage parent involvement! Understanding what your therapist is working on allows you to reinforce skills at home, which significantly accelerates progress. We provide parent coaching as part of every child's programme.
Absolutely. Our free initial consultation is a 30-minute, no-obligation session where our therapist listens to your concerns, briefly observes your child, and advises whether a full assessment is recommended β€” no cost and no pressure.
